Alice Menter

Alice Menter is a UK designer creating extraordinary and beautiful jewellery. She is fast becoming recognised for her luxurious, bold designs, and her trademark intricate, timeless pieces with an industrial edge.

She gained a first class BA Hons degree at Middlesex University in contemporary jewellery design.

Inspired by her time with the Yao Mien hill tribe in Northern Thailand, she explores the boundaries between jewellery, clothing and body adornment.

Her techniques initially investigated ways of joining metals without soldering. She now silver and gold plates everyday objects such as nuts, washers, zips and bolts, which she combines with suede, lycra and chain. Individual pieces follow the contours of the body, move fluidly, and come to life when worn. The combination of contrasting materials used in Alice's designs creates pieces that are bold yet intricate, and industrial whilst still luxurious and feminine.

Since the launch of her jewellery label in April 2011 Alice has had huge attention from the press, with designs featured in Marie Claire, # 1 in the Grazia Fashion Charts, In Style, Stella, Stylist Magazine, Woman and Home and Good Housekeeping to name a few.

Varies! Some have been years in the making...

Light, airy studio, surrounded by memories and creative influences, with a great playlist in the background.

How do you want the wearer to feel when wearing your jewellery?

Strong, feminine, adventurous, glamourous

Who is your typical customer?

Women who don't mind getting noticed...who want to make a statement and stand out from the crowd, who appreciate good design and want to own jewellery that lasts, crosses seasons and is as unique as they are.

What advice would you give to other people who are keen to start up their own business?

Find a good mentor...someone who knows the business. Listen to them, but also trust your instincts. Do your research...know what you want to do and know your market.
